November News

Greetings from the Music Room!  The month of October has been full of Halloween music drifting from the music room.  The students and I have enjoyed performing spooky songs, dances and games.

Recorder Karate testing for Grade 4/5 students continues to be held every Day 5 during morning recess. Interested students are welcome to practice their recorders and test for recorder belts.

Grade 4/5 Choir Performance at the Remembrance Day Service: Our first performance will be at the Remembrance Day Service on Friday, November 7th at 10:45.  The choir will be performing two songs at this service: ‘There is Peace’ and ‘And to You Be Peace’.  For this performance, choir students are asked to wear black pants or skirts and a white top. I will provide them with a Heritage School choir vest.

Grade 4/5 Choir Performance at the Divisional Candlelight Service. Grade 4/5 choir students have been invited to perform at the St. James-Assiniboia School Division Candlelight Service. The service takes place on Monday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. at the Pantages Playhouse Theatre.  A bus will be provided to transport students from Heritage to the theatre and back to Heritage after the concert. All friends and families of the singers are invited to attend the concert. There is no charge to attend this performance. Students are asked to bring in their field trip form to Mrs. Neufeld as soon as possible.

Winter Concert is on Thursday, December 11th: Planning is well underway for our Winter Concert on Thursday, December 11th. Students with speaking roles and solos will be given scripts and music to practice their parts at home. We will use our Music classes to learn the songs and choreography, but students with solos will be expected to attend extra lunch hour rehearsals and some after school rehearsals as well.  More details regarding costumes, props and extra rehearsals will be sent home and/or posted on the Music room bulletin board. Thank you for your continued support of the Music program at Heritage School!

A reminder about recorders…We have started reviewing recorders in Grade 4/5 classes. Some students still need to bring in their recorders from last year.  We will store them in the music room during the school year.  If you have misplaced your recorder over the summer and require a new one, they are available for purchase through the office.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

September in the Heritage Music Room!

Greetings from the Music Room!  Hello, and welcome back to all staff and students! I am looking forward to another exciting year of music making here at Heritage School.

Grade 4/5 Intermediate Choir. We are trying something new this year at Heritage School.  For the first time, Grade 4 and 5 students will have a designated choir class every Day 6 during Period 4.  Choir is a great way to express yourself, learn lots of fantastic songs, develop your voice and make new friends.  As a choir, we will have many opportunities to perform throughout the year including Remembrance Day, Winter Concert, Winnipeg Music Festival and Music Celebration.

Grade 1/2/3 Primary Choir. I will also be offering choir once a cycle during the lunch hour for Grades 1, 2, and 3 students who are interested in singing. We will begin rehearsing in January after the Winter Break. Please let Mrs. Neufeld know if you are interested in joining Primary Choir.

A reminder about recorders…I would like to ask all Grade 3, 4, and 5 students to please bring in your recorders from last year.  We will store them in the music room during the school year.  If you have misplaced your recorder over the summer and require a new one, they will be available for purchase through the school.  They cost is $10.00.  As a result of poor tuning and tone quality, please do not purchase a recorder for classroom use from the Dollar Store.

I look forward to a fabulous year of making music together!  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Musically yours,
Mrs. H. Neufeld
